The title of this painting is no-nonsense: Interior. Mother and sister of the artist. You get the gist of it. To the right, sitting firm and spread-legged, is Madame Vuillard, née Marie Justine Alexandrine Michaud. She was a seamstress, and as a widow, she had to become the bread-winning matriarch of the Vuillard clan.
